The National E Procurement project chair commends two local authorities -both @UK clients on their work with SME’s in an article within the January edition of ‘Government IT’ magazine. Colin Whitehouse states that “SME engagement is critical”. He goes on to say that “I’m very pleased with some of the things that have been achieved by the Kick Start programmes in LB Newham and Bristol, which aim to set SME’s up with the technology and knowledge they need to be able to do business with government electronically, and helping them realise that the massive benefits in terms of streamlining processes are not just being reaped by government.”
In an associated article by Martin Scarfe (pictured) of the London Borough of Newham it is estimated that savings through the application of e-procurement could be as much as 17 per cent of spend , although the definition of e-procurement here includes not just an efficient purchase-to-pay process, but the whole remit of electronic sourcing, tendering etc.
