Hertfordshire CC, IDeA:marketplace and @UK PLC launch ‘Hertfordshire Marketplace’

Sep 13, 2005
Hertfordshire County Council has created an innovative eMarketplace in conjunction with eProcurement specialists IDeA:marketplace and @UK PLC. The new Hertfordshire Marketplace will support 9 Hertfordshire districts and neighbouring unitary Luton Borough Council in meeting their objectives for eProcurement. A combination of technologies will allow the councils to achieve efficiencies savings by accessing the content held on IDeA:marketplace as well as engaging local businesses through the @UK PLC supplier adoption process.

The project is being supported by the East of England Centre of Excellence. Nicol Thorton, Assistant Director of the Centre says: ‘This project has the potential to provide significant efficiency savings to the participating councils, giving them access to Best Value regional and national contracts. We are also delighted that it will benefit local businesses, allowing them to trade electronically not only with the councils but also with each other. This will help the local authorities concerned meet their targets for Local Economic Development, so it’s a real win-win.’

County Council leader Robert Ellis said: ‘This is a very exciting scheme for all the partners involved. Hertfordshire County Council is very happy to be working with the 10 authorities to deliver a project that will have a real impact and deliver tangible benefits. The unique nature of this partnership enables us to support councils in meeting a diverse set of agendas from Procurement and eGoverment through to Local Economic Development and regeneration.’
