Carbon Offset

@UK PLC calculates the carbon footprint of all purchases through the marketplace, and then allows either the supplier or the buyer to voluntarily offset the purchase. Carbon offsetting requires carbon footprints and @UK PLC uses hybrid carbon footprints

Hybrid Carbon Footprints

A hybrid carbon footprint provides the best cost accuracy balance with a range of costs from £ 4 for a Level 1 Carbon Footprint to approximately £ 450 per item for a Level 3 Carbon Footprint

Move your item to the top on @UK PLC site, with an an e2class code and a Level 1 Carbon Footprint and become certified Carbon Neutral

Get a level 1 carbon Footprint for £ 4

Get a level 2 carbon Footprint from £ 50 (estimated cost £ 70)

Get a level 3 carbon Footprint from £ 100 (estimated cost £ 450)


Carbon Offsetting costs

The costs of carbon offsetting are minimal, and these can either be paid by the buyer or paid by the supplier. Most public sector bodies regard sustainability as an important factor in their purchasing decisions and will purchase a sustainable product over another similar product. The cost of going carbon neutral are normally minimal and often less that 1p per sale.


Public Sector Carbon Offsetting rates

If the buyer is public sector and chooses to offset the transaction then the offset should be via the Public Sector Offsetting scheme.  The current pricing and details for the public sector are available at The Department of Energy and Climate change site.

The public sector rate set in the most recent eAuction on 23 June 2010 was £ 12.21 per CER.

Private Sector Carbon Offsetting rates


For individual and private sector offsets, then either a CER or a Voluntary offset can be used.  There is a very large range of offsets available, and your offset is given the UKPLC Charity, who then either fund a project or make a donation to an offset program. To simplify administration, the current public sector rate is used to calculate the value of all offsets. Because the actual costs of an offsetting program can vary, it may be that the UKPLC Charity achieves a higher or lower level of offset in the final result.

As an individual, your offset may be eligible for gift aid. The UKPLC Charity will reclaim gift aid, provided you give your permission and confirm that you are eligible.
